Quadcopter/rc car autonomous 3D map
- Hack Details: A quadcopter or Car Radio Controlled or Autonomous, first step radio controlled. It will be equiped with a camera (webcam) and a laser to create a 3D map at the same time that is flying/driving. It will drive/flight slow to create the map in real time (that’s why maybe autonomous is a good idea)
- What you need to make it happen?: A quadcopter/car Radio Controlled, A processor unit (Intel Galileo should do, maybe Raspberry pi can do it, but probably not), Rx/Tx system, some servos, laser, webcam, and enthusiastic developers/hackers 🙂

Cool idea, came across a really neat and affordable LIDAR today that would be very useful for this. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13680
Thats great Joe, and would reduce the compute needs of the device. It draws 1W though, so will still be power hungry. But the software will be much easier to achieve the required goal…
I’ve worked with that lidar before and I’ve some of the spare caps that are required to reduce noise, i can bring them in if you’d like
